Empowering Local Communities for Smart and Sustainable Cultural Heritage
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 5:00 PM CET, the webinar “Empowering Local Communities for Smart and Sustainable Cultural Heritage: Bridging Expertise, Digital Change, and Partnerships” will take place. Organised by LDnet, an informal European network set up in 2011 to bring together knowledge and people in local development, the event will highlight the crucial role of local communities in enhancing cultural heritage through participatory approaches, digital innovation, and new forms of partnership.
Among the keynote speakers, Giuseppe Pace, Senior Researcher at Cnr-Iriss and member of LDnet Board, will open the webinar with a presentation on community activation for cultural heritage valorisation. His talk will focus on participatory methodologies aimed at actively engaging citizens in sustainable and inclusive transition processes.
The event will be moderated by Alexander Covine (EMPATHS Project Coordinator, Interpret Europe) and will feature distinguished international experts. Rosalba La Grotteria (LDnet and Hangar Piemonte) will discuss the role of digital tools in culture and cultural transition. Antony Cassar (Heritage Malta) will present the “Memory Twin” project of the Malta Dockyard Collection. Haris Martinos (LDnet and Paros Ancient Quarries) will illustrate strategies for promoting Paros’ white marble. Roberta De Bonis Patrignani (Fondazione LINKS) will delve into the case of Crespi d’Adda, a recognized UNESCO world heritage where local communities are actively engaged in developing a smart management plan.
This webinar will provide a valuable platform for discussion on how digital tools and participatory processes can foster a more inclusive, creative, and sustainable management of cultural heritage. The event is open to all interested participants upon online registration.
