Conference “The Future of Hope: an interdisciplinary dialogue”
The theme of hope is central to the three-year project “The Future of Hope: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue,” initiated by the Centre for Integral Formation at the European University of Rome, with the patronage of FUCE (European Federation of Catholic Universities). This initiative aims to foster cultural and scientific discussions around the concept of hope in today’s world, featuring surveys, international comparisons, and academic exchanges.
The project, led by Renata Salvarani and Guido Traversa from the European University of Rome, is hosting a three-day forum in Brussels from November 19 to 21. Over 40 professors and researchers from diverse fields will take part in the Conference (20-21 November) to share the findings of their work. Topics to be explored include social innovation, history, theology, medicine, ICT, spatial planning, and artificial intelligence – each framing the theme of hope (understood as vision, orientation, and propensity) within its social, technical, and economic implications.
Giuseppe Pace, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Research on Innovation and Services for Development (Cnr-Iriss), will participate in the conference, focusing on sustainability and cultural transition. He will present key outcomes from two international projects: the Marie Curie-funded TREND project and the Undergrond4Value COST Action.
Additionally, he will take part in the closed-door meeting “Visions of Hope for Europe and beyond” on Tuesday, November 19. The meeting is organised by the European University of Rome (EUR) and the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) to address major subjects that affect our current geopolitical and socio-economic situation in Europe and to create a space of exchange between EU policymakers and researchers from academia to spur discussions regarding the future of Europe, stemming from the concept of Hope. Specifically Giuseppe Pace will contribute to the roundtable focused on Sustainability and visions of Future (urban planning and sustainable economic development).
The initiative provides an important opportunity for interdisciplinary debate and discussion between researchers and policy makers to reflect on how hope can drive contemporary challenges and help define visions and solutions for a more sustainable and inclusive future.
