Scientific excursion “Naples: continuity and disruption”

From 2nd to 9th October, Cottbus meets Naples. Students from the Chair of Management of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus – Senftenberg, guided by researchers of the Institute for Research on Innovation and Services for Development of the National Research Council of Italy (Cnr Iriss) and professors of the University of Naples Federico II will visit different areas of Naples.

The scientific excursion, under the title “Naples: Continuity and Disruption”, is meant to explore urban space as a composite of sediments of past ways of living, struggles, negotiations, and desires. The excursion’s programme will include inputs by local actors and explorative works, led by experts of the sites. The explorations will be integrated by two lectures focusing on Neapolitan everyday life and the challenge of local cultural heritage conservation (Oct. 3).

The proposed itinerary, developed through mobile workshops and place visits, will try to  represent the complexity of the local context. Starting from the visit to the historic city centre, recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site (Oct. 3), the working group will go through the Sanità and Scampia neighborhoods (Oct. 4), for deconstructing their bad reputations and highlighting regenerative practices and processes. A visit to the archaeological site of Pompeii will follow (Oct. 5).

The next mobile woshop will be held at the Site of National Interest Bagnoli-Coroglio as part of the AESOP International Conference “Urban Conflicts and Peace: Everyday Politics of Commons” (Oct. 6). The issues of properties confiscated from criminal organizations currently used for social purposes and the role of urban commons to grant public access to sea, are addressed by the last two mobile workshops (Oct. 7), followed by the visit to the Naples National Archaeological Museum. The itineray will end with the visit to the Real Bosco di Capodimonte which will host the closing discussion (Oct. 8).

The excursion is part of the activities envisaged by the Memorandum of Understanding between Cnr Iriss and the Chair of Management of the Brandenburgische Technische Universität (BTU) Cottbus – Senftenberg, signed last June 2023. Researchers responsible for Cnr Iriss for the MoU are Stefania Ragozino, while BTU responsible is Tihomir Viderman. The two researchers, together with Gabriella Esposito De Vita (Cnr Iriss), have a long-lasting cooperation under the umbrella of the AESOP Thematic Group “Public Spaces and Urban Cultures”.
