A roundtable on the impact of innovation and new technologies on the enjoyment of fundamental rights took place in Amsterdam.
On 21 July 2022, the CNR-IRISS, the Thinking Watermill Society and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura per i Paesi Bassi, gathered scholars and officials of International Organizations for a roundtable on Technological Innovation and Human Rights.
Mario Di Giulio (Pavia e Ansaldo Law Firm) delivered a keynote speech on technological innovation, digital barriers, and potential risks connected to technology and enjoyment of fundamental rights.
Giovanni Carlo Bruno (CNR-IRISS), Letizia Lo Giacco (University of Leiden), and Domenico Vallario (Kosovo Specialist Chambers) discussed how technology is an important tool for the dissemination of knowledge and how it may become a ‘key enabler’ for the full realization of human rights, without discrimination. In addition, it was underlined how technological innovation may impact daily work of international courts and tribunals, when dealing with the search for elements of proofs of alleged crimes.
Fulvio Maria Palombino (University of Naples ‘Federico II’ and CNR-IRISS) concluded the roundtable with his final remarks.
In early 2022, TTWS and CNR-IRISS had concluded a partnership agreement for research and work on fundamental rights. The roundtable is among the initial outcomes of the parnership.
