Objectives and contents

The project is part of the activities envisaged in the Memorandum of Understanding between CNR IRISS and Consac Gestioni Idriche S.P.A., to be pursued on an experimental basis in some of the most significant purification plants managed by Consac. More specifically, we are talking about an applied research in the field of the energy valorisation of sewage sludge and the advanced treatment of purified water for its recovery and reuse for irrigation or industrial purposes.

The project will be structured into the following operational phases

1. Survey, data analysis and drafting of the pre-feasibility study;
2. Launch of Pilot Projects;
3. Completion of the applied research project.

Phase 1 based on survey and data analysis will constitute the fundamental part of the Pre-feasibility Study (PFS) of the project that will lead to the identification of Pilot Projects (PP) to be implemented and to the definition of the related costs and specific implementation methods.

In phase 2 – Launch of Pilot Projects (PPs), a series of plants will be constructed for each of the different technologies chosen, to verify their functionality in the field under the present conditions, as well as their technological reliability and efficiency. The PPs will serve as demonstrator plants for the subsequent phase 3 of the project’s completion, which will be based on the executive replication of the plants that proved, in the previous testing phase, to be the most fruitful in terms of realisation and production results in other plants with the same characteristics as the experimental ones.
