Cultural Commons: Faro Convention and Heritage Communities for a Shared and Collaborative Enhancement of Cultural Heritage

Scientific Coordinator

Eleonora Giovene Di Girasole

Objectives and contents

This action-research project aims at defining a methodological approach for the enhancement of cultural heritage as a “Cultural Commons”, with the active involvement of “Heritage Communities” (HCs), making operational the principles of the “Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society” (Faro Convention). The expected output is the elaboration of an innovative model of governance and management based on collaboration, cooperation and the engagement of HCs for sustainable development and urban regeneration. In a transdisciplinary perspective, it aims to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Carry out an interdisciplinary literature review and evaluation of existing relevant practices on HCs to generate a database
  2. Define a specific framework for the shared, collaborative and co-operative valorisation of cultural heritage and test it on case studies of HCs
  3. Identify innovative and sustainable Co-Governance models
  4. Define shared, collaborative and cooperative management procedures
  5. Develop models and procedures to implement the Convention
  6. Experimentation in the Faro Convention Network
