The “Prize for Port Studies General Manager Fernand Suykens” to the CNR IRISS

Marcella De Martino, senior researcher at CNR IRISS, awarded  the “ Prize for Port Studies General Manager Fernand Suykens” on may 2019.
This prize has been set up by the Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences in order to promote studies on sea ports in developing countries.
The prize, amounting to 2,500 euro,  is intended to reward the author of a highly valued scientific study on a subject related to port economy, port management or port techniques, published every three years (2016-2018).
The study intitled: “Port Competitiveness and Value Creation: The Network Approach. Empirical Evidence from the Italian Port System“, has been carried out in collaboration with the University of Antwerp,  Department of Transport and Regional Economics, supervisors Prof. Eddy Van de Voorde and Hilde Meersman.
A special thanks goes to Umberto Masucci, president of “The International Propeller Club Port of Naples“, for his valuable support and insights during the empirical analysis.
The prize will be collected during the opening session of the Royal Academy which will be held on 24 October 2019 at the Palais des Académies in Brussels.
