As education systems across Europe are undergoing significant transformations, particularly in relation to governance and digitalisation, SUSEES offers a space to critically explore these developments through research and dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>Following the 2025 edition held at the Institute of Education of the\u00a0University of Lisbon, the Summer School will take place in\u00a0<b>Naples,<\/b> hosted by the\u00a0University of Naples Federico II\u00a0and\u00a0CNR-IRISS, <b>from 8 to 11 September 2026<\/b>. Applications are open to early-career researchers and must be submitted <b>by 31 May 2026<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Summer School<\/b><\/p>\n<p>SUSEES is an intensive international programme dedicated to European education studies, established around ten years ago within the <a href=\"http:\/\/socedu.irpps.cnr.it\/identifying-network-28\/networks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Network 28 \u2013 Sociologies of Education<\/a> of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eera-ecer.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Educational Research Association<\/a>, the largest association for educational research in Europe. Since its inception, SUSEES has received more than 400 applications and hosted over 200 early-career researchers from Europe and across the globe, contributing to the development of an international and interdisciplinary community of scholars.<\/p>\n<p>Designed for PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and early-stage scholars, SUSEES offers an intensive and collaborative environment in which theoretical reflection and empirical research are closely intertwined. Conceived as an open laboratory, the programme encourages participants to critically explore how different conceptual and methodological approaches can be mobilised to open up new research questions and perspectives on education in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, the Summer School has been hosted in cities such as Strasbourg, Naples, Leuven and Lisbon, fostering a transnational academic network in which many participants have continued to collaborate and publish in leading journals in the field, including the\u00a0<i>European Educational Research Journal<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Programme<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The four-day programme combines lectures delivered by leading scholars with workshops and collaborative laboratory sessions, offering a dialogic and interactive learning experience. Particular attention is devoted to the relationship between theory and research practice, as well as to the development of methodological awareness in the study of education. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, including group work, collaborative labs and mobile workshops across the city, fostering exchange and collective learning.<\/p>\n<p>The full programme of the Summer School will be published shortly.<\/p>\n<p><b>Organising Committee and Teaching Staff\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Organising Committee, coordinated by Emiliano Grimaldi (University of Naples Federico II) and Paolo Landri (CNR-IRISS), includes Giuseppe Micciarelli and Sara Pastore (University of Naples Federico II), and Valeria Catanese, Emanuela De Simone, Angela Petrillo and Stefania Ragozino (CNR-IRISS).<\/p>\n<p>The SUSEES 2026 edition will feature an international faculty of distinguished scholars, including: Lu\u00eds Miguel Carvalho (University of Lisbon), Mathias Decuypere (Zurich University of Teacher Education), Francesca Peruzzo (University of Birmingham), Nelli Piattoeva (Tampere University), Pieter Vanden Broeck (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia), Antoni Verger (Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona), and Christian Ydesen (University of Zurich).<\/p>\n<p><b>Application Process and Practical Information<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Applicants are invited to submit a CV, a short description of their current research project and a motivation letter <b>by 31 May 2026<\/b> to the following address:\u00a0<b>susees2017@gmail.com<\/b>. Selected candidates will be notified <b>by 10 June 2026<\/b>, with <b>registration to be completed by 30 June 2026<\/b>. Participation in the summer school is free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>Participants are expected to cover their own travel costs, while accommodation in Naples (four nights, from 7 to 11 September) will be provided by the University of Naples Federico II and CNR-IRISS, contributing to an accessible and inclusive international learning environment.<\/p>\n<p><b>Organising Institutions<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The SUSEES 2026 Summer School is jointly organised by the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II and the Institute for Research on Innovation and Services for Development (CNR-IRISS), in cooperation with the EURIDICE project, the Department of Human and Social Sciences, Cultural Heritage of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-DSU) and the European Educational Research Association (EERA).
