Objectives and contents

The Agreement between IRISS – CNR and MIPAAF aims to carry out research activities in support of national policy in the sea fishing sector and prosecute the objective of contributing to overcoming the critical issues that emerged, at the various levels of government, in defining and implementing control systems for fishing activities.

An effective control system plays an essential role in the implementation of policies and regulations aimed at ensuring the sustainability of fishing activities and their consistent management, aimed at achieving economic, social and environmental benefits. However, changes in market dynamics and advances in fishing techniques put to the test the ability of existing regulatory systems to guarantee the sustainable exploitation of fish resources, consumer protection and the fight against illegal fishing.

The Project aims to contribute to the definition of a regulatory framework that is in line with the evolving dynamics of the international legal system, especially at the EU level. The Project also intends to support the implementation and the improvement of the national system for the collection and sharing of data among all the subjects involved in the control activities, in order to allow Italy to cooperate effectively at European and international level.
