Since 1995 Marichela Sepe is with the Italian National Research Council in Naples, where since 2001 she is a researcher. Since 2009 she is with the IRISS – Institute for Research in Innovation and Services for Development of Naples of the Italian National Research Council.
She received the Laurea degree in Architecture and the Specialization School degree in Urban Design from the University of Naples in 1991 and 1996, respectively.
Since 2003, she collaborates with the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples, where she is Contract Professor and member of the Research Committee Doctorate in Urban Design and Planning.
In 2000 she was visiting scholar at the LaboratorieJardins, Paysages, Territories of the Ecoled’Architecture Paris La Villette and in 2004 at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning of MIT, Cambridge. In 2013 she has been visiting Professor in the Peking University and held lectures in the Peking, Wuhan and Xi’an Universities.
Her research interests include: urban landscape analysis and planning; urban design; public space; urban happiness, livability and health design; territorial and environmental planning; post-seismic reconstruction; creative urban regeneration. On these topics, she has published several national and international journal articles, conference papers, books and book chapters.
Drs Sepe is member of the INU – Urban Planning Italian National Institute – Committee, Vice President of the Campania section, – involved as a Director in the 2013 INU Regional Urban Planning Exhibition -, member of the Eura Governing Board and member of Urban Design Group and DO.CO.MO.MO. She is: responsible and member of scientific committee of conferences; referee and member of the Editorial Board of the main scientific journals in urban design and planning. She has been scientific coordinator or responsible of national and international research programmes, including: FP7-PEOPLE-2011-IRSES MC-IRSES – PUMAH; European ProgrammeCulture 2007-2013 Preserving Places; Por-Creo /FESR 2007-2013 TECON@BC; POR FESR Lazio 2007/2013 Div@ter.
In 2014-2016 she won: the Ardito-Desio award for the paper presented at Ipsapa 2014and 2016 Conference; the Urban Planning Literature Award of the Italian National Urban Planning Institute (INU) with the Monagraphy Planning and Place in the City Mapping Place Identity, Routledge and the article for the Book “Unapolitica per la cittàitaliane, InuEdizioni; and the Runner up Practitioners Presentation at TForum 2015.
She has participated to several Architecture and Urban Design competitions, in which she took two first places and one selection.
