The Faro convention implementation. Heritage communities as commons: relationship, participation and well-being in a shared multidisciplinary perspective

On 16 and 17 December 2021, in the complex of SS. Marcellino and Festo Ateneo Federico II Naples and virtual, the “The Faro Convention Implementation. Heritage Communities as Commons: Relationships, Participation and Well-being in a Shared Multidisciplinary Perspective” will be held.

The event is part of the activities, started in 2015, of the research group of the Research Institute on Innovation and Services for Development (CNR-Iriss) on collaborative processes for the valorisation of cultural heritage as a commons.

Within the Conference, scientific contributions will be presented on the innovative theoretical-methodological perspectives of intervention and good practices aimed at promoting the enhancement of cultural heritage, the development of places and communities and the connections of citizens with them, in an interdisciplinary, intercultural and inter-institutional perspective. In this perspective Psychologists, Architects, Sociologists, Economists, Lawyers, Geographers, Social and Cultural Managers with a synergistic and multi-professional action can act for the realization of these principles.

The Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (Faro Convention) makes topical the debate on the subject of cultural heritage as a common good in its varied dimensions: material, intangible and linked to the identity of places and communities. Indeed, the Convention states that all the forms of cultural heritage in Europe, which constitute a shared source of memory, understanding, identity, cohesion and creativity are part of the cultural heritage.

This broad definition, which also refers to the role and function of citizen participation, opens up a multitude of possible intercultural and inter-institutional collaborations and innovative ways to promote the development of cultural places, communities and heritages.

Cultural heritage provides communities with tangible and intangible experiences that foster the perception of common past and traditions, creating connections between citizens and places and between citizens and the community of which they are apart, fostering a focus on local dimensions, enhancing resources and natural, environmental, cultural and social heritage, improving the quality of life. They offer opportunities for discussion and debate about issues affecting the entire community, as well as to expand their social network, impacting the ties within and with the community through their physical and social characteristics and through the social and cultural environment they host.

For this purpose, the CommunityPsychologyLab (Department of Humanities) of the University Federico II, the Institute for Research on Innovation and Services for Development of the CNR, the Italian Office of the Council of Europe and the National Board of Psychologists invite you to a scientific and cultural meeting on these issues in Naples and virtual.
