Lectio magistralis Intercultural diplomacy: the case of Italy in Sudan

Following the Lectio Magistralis  given by H. E. Fabrizio Lobasso, Italian Ambassador to Sudan, the workshop Innovation for the enhancement of human capital in Sudan: the preliminary findings of the INSO project and future perspectives” will begin.

For anyone working in the field of international relations, Intercultural Diplomacy offers a way to improve work performance through the use of  inclusive communication; constructive conversation; mutual understanding; supportive interpersonal attitude, emotional intelligence and appreciation of diversity.

Diplomats, managers and executives in international organisations, and NGO members can optimize their job performance when dealing with diversity by viewing their work through an intercultural lens.

In the area of international relations, Intercultural Diplomacy can be implemented in seven different areas: politics, trade, development cooperation, culture, communication, solidarity and law.

The lectio magistralis will illustrate how the experimental use of Intercultural Diplomacy by an Italian diplomatic mission in Sudan has led to concrete improvement in diplomatic performance and significant enhancement in Italian-Sudanese relations.

Fabrizio Lobasso, Italian Ambassador to Sudan, has been conducting research in the area of diplomacy and interculture for the past ten years. The author of several books and research papers, he invented the term “Intercultural Diplomacy” which has led to the creation of an international chair at UNINT (University of International Studies) of Rome, in the 2017/2018 academic year.
